Little Tikes Side-by-Side Kitchen

Little Tikes Side-by-Side Kitchen Review

What a fun little kitchen for my little girl to play with. She's having fun stirring the pot and pretending to cook the little burger in the pan. I like that this kitchen is not overwhelmingly large, and can be moved to different parts of the house easily. It was also nice that it came with accessories, like the burger and dinnerware. Putting together, as with most bigger toys we have purchased for our little one, was no fun. The screws that keep the counter to the base didn't work, I only managed to screw one in, the others it was like they were completely stripped or the holes were just too big. But it's still pretty sturdy, and we keep it against the wall. I'm fairly strong but needed my husband's muscles for this one. Overall I recommend this toy as a cute smaller kitchen for a toddler to play with. The current price I see here on Amazon is over double what I paid for mine though!

So I got this for my kid who was turning two before her b day and as soon as I put it together she was playing with it and it was on top of her, this has no center of gravity and even with 25 lbs of sand inside it that I placed in side it still falls over easy and really should not be hold at all its poorly made and unsafe for any child. We couldn't return it because my kids damaged the box when we were opening it. And the seller I got it from on here has some policy so I just got stuck with it.

Step 2 LifeStyle Dream Kitchen

Step 2 LifeStyle Dream Kitchen Review

See more picture

I'll make it quick. Here are the reasons I like this kitchen for my kids (ages 4 & 2).

- It's big.
The play area is large enough that 2 kids can play together without really fighting each other. It's also tall enough that my 4 year old who is really tall for his age doesnt have to squat down or play on his knees.

- Lots of stuff to do
This thing really has so many hiding places for dishes & food. It also has a lot of great electronic components. A working button panel for the microwave and the oven. A working cordless phone. A burner that sizzles and boils. It even has light placed under the cabinet to shine down on the sink.

- Super Easy to assemble
Not sure what other reviewers are talking about, but the assembly for this kitchen is minimal, and the instructions didn't seem that difficult to follow. Super easy. Takes approx an hour or so to complete, if that. There are basically 3 big pieces that screw together, and then smaller items like shelf knobs, etc. Stickers are a cinch too. You don't need the stickers if you're that lazy, but it does complete the look.

- It's lightweight.
Though the kitchen is big and playable, since it's plastic, it's really light so it's easy to move back and forth to play areas if need be. That doesn't mean the kids will be throwing it around or anything. It is substantial, but it's an easy move for a Dad.

- Great style/ and play design
The kitchen has a cool look and seems like the high-end kitchens without the hefty pricetag. The layout of fridge, oven, microwave, sink, etc is just done really well. I think it is a good middle ground for those wanting something better than the cheap cheap stuff, but can't justify spending an arm and a leg on a fancy kitchen.

- Great accessories
The kitchen comes with plates, bowls, pots & pans, pitcher, some flatware, and a few food items. The kids are basically ready to play because it comes with so much stuff already.

Ok. Here are the complaints.

- Screwing the backsplash into the top plastic piece is slightly irritating because there were no screw holes. I basically hammered the screw in and used my electric tools to make the screwing easier.
- due to the nature of the plastic, the white cabinet doors at the top of kitchen were slightly warped so when they close, they aren't flush to the kitchen cabinet. This doesn't change functionality, and the 2 kids aren't going to ever notice, or care, but I'm a designer that notices the nit-pickey details. Just an observation.

Ok, so having said all that, here are some things i'd recommend if you buy this

- buy more fake food. This set only comes with a pizza, and some pieces to build a hamburger. Not much really. I got a 90 piece food set at Target for .
- buy a couple packs of AA & AAA batteries.

All in all, this is a fantastic kitchen, and I think any kid that would get this as a gift would be extremely happy.

Step 2 LifeStyle Dream Kitchen Feature

  • Stainless Steel, Granite, and Wood styling provide incredible realism
  • 5 electronic features: microwave, over, stovetop, phone, and light
  • 7 cupboards and drawers
  • Oven, refrigerator, and microwave add to the storage
  • 37 piece accessory set includes dishes, phone, and basket
The perfect play center for your domestic-minded little ones, the Lifestyle Dream Kitchen provides kids with endless make-believe play possibilities. The "stainless steel" oven, microwave, stove top and phone all make realistic electronic sounds. Also includes a refrigerator, multiple storage drawers and cabinets and a sink with a faucet. Plus, there's loads of storage space for the included 28-piece Dining Room and Pots and Pans Set. Your little chef can cook up a feast using a special frying pan and boiling pot that make electronic frying and boiling water sounds when placed on the stove's front burner. This Dream Kitchen also features a framed window with an overhead light, a granite-styled countertop and a make-believe sink with a modern faucet and pull-out sprayer. Minimal adult assembly required. Measures approximately 35.5" x 15.25" x 44.75". Requires 12 "AA" alkaline batteries (not included).

My 2 y/o old son loves this kitchen. It came with a a few dishes to start him off and so far it's enough. He even helped me put it together. Instructions are all done in pictures with makes it idiot proof. Not hard at all. You will need a drill though. I didn't anticipate that figured all assembly could be accomplished with a screwdriver. Not a problem at all for me, but might be for some that don't own a drill it would be. The bottom pegs were kind of difficult to put on, but I found that if you turn them on the side a little going into the thread it's a lot easier. I was trying to screw them in straight and couldn't get one of them to go in, but after I sort started the thread in crooked it worked.. I love that this kitchen can be for a boy or girl because so many are aimed towards little girls. I received it only four days after ordering it and overall I am very happy with this toy.

My daughter received this kitchen set when she was only 4 months old. Even at such a young age, she loved it. At first, she played with the accessories - the phone, the frying pan, and especially the spatula and spoon. We took the spatula and spoon everywhere and it kept her entertained!

Once she could sit up, she loved playing with the whole set. This was one toy that could really hold her attention. Even now, over a year after she received it, she is still playing with it!

The kitchen set is just the right size for little ones who can just sit up or are just learning to walk. The shape sorter is great and the sounds are fun.

I would definitely reccomend this product!

I searched for a good first kitchen for my daughter's first birthday, and this one is perfect. I have never seen a better "first kitchen" for a one-year-old. My daughter loves it and has played with it regularly for over a year. My only criticism is that the set comes with a phone but nowhere to store it except in the oven. :)

Little Tikes Deluxe Wooden Kitchen and Laundry Center

Little Tikes Deluxe Wooden Kitchen and Laundry Center Review

See more picture

I wanted to get a non-girly kitchen for my 2.5 year old son and I did a lot of research before deciding on the Little Tikes Deluxe Wooden Kitchen. I love that it is relatively small and that the colors match well with any decor. It IS time-consuming to put it together- approx 3 hours- but I think it was worth it since it seems a lot more sturdy than the cheap plastic versions that are out there. I found the directions easy to follow, and from reading other reviews I was aware that the parts were numbered on the plastic lid, which saved my husband a lot of frustration.

My son has loved playing with this kitchen- opening and closing the doors, turning the stove on and off. I especially like the muffins "cooking" in the oven- a cool hologram feature that shows raw batter from one angle and almost-cooked muffins from another. We have not used the small chalk board on the side because I don't want my son to get chalk dust everywhere, but I think it is a nice touch. The rest of the features are pretty standard- microwave, stove, sink, phone, clock, refrigerator, a few pots and pans- but the laundry center makes this a little different from all the other kitchens out there. My only complaint is that the laundry basket and washer/dryer are very small- my son can only fit one shirt in there- but it is very cute to see him doing laundry! The ironing board and iron are nice touches but he rarely plays with them- maybe because I don't iron very often and he doesn't really know what they are!

So far this kitchen is holding up well and I'm happy with the quality for the price paid. A couple of the hinges are a little off so the fridge door scrapes a bit and the oven falls open too quickly, but these are minor issues. Initially, my son had trouble opening the microwave door since there was a fairly strong magnet holding it shut, but my husband just reversed that piece and it opens and closes just fine now.

If you are interested in a wooden kitchen I would highly recommend going to a store to see this kitchen up close- the pictures don't really do it justice. Highly recommend this cute, functional kitchen!

After many trips to different stores and hours of reading online reviews and looking at different kitchens I decided to go with this one. I love how it has a very modern Pottery Barn look and isn't huge so it doesn't take up so much space in our playroom. I also like that it has a wash machine and kitchen in one to save space. Melissa & Doug Classic Deluxe Kitchen

Melissa & Doug Classic Deluxe Kitchen Review

See more picture

Just purchased this for Christmas. Although I am a carpenter and architect, I was a little concerned about the complexity of assembly. Of course, Christmas Eve at midnight is when assembly begins for something like this. (do yourself a favor and don't ahve that extraa beer or glass of wine beforehand) You can't easily build it and then hide it in your bedroom or office and then drag it out Christmas AM so I, at least, was confined to assembling it right alongside the Christmas tree. (Cheery experience anyway)

And yes, even with my experience, it took a full FOUR hours proceeding at a nice careful, steady pace. However, the directions are very, very clear with tips and all the pieces are sequentially numbered. (Line them all up on the floor from "1" onward for an easier time of it)
There are colored dots at tricky portions to ensure that some component is not assembled incorrectly. I'd say the assembly went very smoothly but slowly.
It all arrived in perfect condition. It is a really well thought-out unit. Although it's all particleboard (melamine-coated), it's still a well-built unit, especially considering the price and the fact that (of course) it's produced in China. There is a report from Doug And Melissa enclosed stating that the products have been tested and contain no lead paint. (Although the testing report is generated in China and the bulk of it is in Chinese! So who knows!) ;-)

The hinges are very durable. The panel pieces were cut well and fit together well. The plasic components were well-made and the wooden faucets and handles were great. I think the microwave turntable probably could use an extra plastic washer between it and the case in order to function more smoothly...but that's a very small point. Unlike some other customers our unit did not have any mis-drilled holes (although you do have to play with the knock-down "barrel" connectors a bit sometimes when installing the screw to ensure that the screw goes directly into the threaded portion of the barrel) You don't want to just jam the screw in there as that could cause some cross-threading I'd think. Although it's slow, use the hex wrench provided (or another one) for assembly, and NOT a hex bit in a drill as that would probably result in some cross-threading or over-tightening. Assemble all the bolts loosely for one panel/piece and THEN tighten them all up. This will help eliminate "alignment" problems.

Our boy REALLY loves this unit...and I've added hooks on the side panels for measuring cups, spoons, etc. Highly recommend this product. We should have it around for years to come. Would easily stand up to moderate daily use in a pre-school or daycare environment.

What We Think

Fun Factor:

Durability:

(what this means)

The Good: Solid wood construction pre-painted with durable acrylic paint Rounded corners and several safety features; Fun, bold colors ideal for younger children

The Bad: Up to four-hour assembly time required; A bit pricey

In a Nutshell: Long lasting, durable,hard-wood kitchen set that children will enjoy for years.
At a Glance

Ages: 6 and up
Requires: Phillips and flat screwdriver
Set-Up Time and Design Features
Before you invest in this set, be prepared for four or more hours of set-up time. To assemble this Deluxe Kitchen Set, you'll be asked to connect over 30 separate sold-wood pieces together with more than 170 nuts, bolts, screws and hinges.

Don't panic! The good news is that the instructions couldn't be any easier to follow. If you know how to use a screwdriver and a hex key, you can do it. (A power screwdriver would speed things up quite a bit.) You'll also want a second set of hands on call due to the set's weight--the finished product weighs over 90 pounds.

To ease assembly, each wooden piece is color coded and pre-drilled, making it virtually impossible to make mistakes. Just be certain to give yourself plenty of floorspace and time before you start, and with so many easy-to-swallow pieces, you'll want the kids to be fast asleep.

The great news is that once the set is assembled, there is a very good chance that it will outlast your child's interest in make-believe kitchens by more than a few years. This kitchen is incredibly well-constructed and designed; you'll consider it as much of a piece of furniture as a child's toy. It would take an extremly determined and strong child with a heavy object to harm it. And if you treat it well, it could easily become an heirloom to pass down to the next generation of young chefs.

A nice safety feature parents will love is that there are no sharp angles that can harm stumbling children; every wood piece has been rounded at the corners, and every knob and faucet similarly features soft curves designed specially with toddlers in mind. Each wooden piece and metal hinge is pre-painted with a hard, durable acrylic. All the screws and bolts are recessed, and the see-through oven and microwave feature unbreakable plastic windows.

When completed, the set measures approximately 41x42x17 inches (HxWxD).

What the Aspiring Chef Needs
Although this set is recommended for children three years of age and older, one of our test children who was two years old loved every macaroni-and-cheese making minute of her time with it. On her tiptoes she could reach the microwave and storage cabinet (the set stands over three feet tall), and over the next several months of growing she will assuredly gain greater satisfaction with easier use of the top shelves. Our slightly taller three-year old test boy also had to reach a bit, but neither one of them minded in the least.

The stove dials and sink faucet and assemblies turn freely, which made it easy for the kids to use. Each of the doors is held shut by an adjustable plastic door latch that provides just enough tension to keep them from swinging freely but still easy for the kids to open. The stove,

With rounded corners all around, children won't have to worry about sharp edges. View larger.
microwave, and refrigerator each feature simply painted details, such as timers, temperature gauges and a ice maker. It's possible that as kids grow older, they may want more realistic details, but for toddlers, the bright and bold colors and simple designs are perfect. This is make-believe, after all.

Be forewarned that the set itself does not come with any cooking utensils or other assecories. We purchased a Melissa and Doug Kitchen Accessory Set before assembling the kitchen and were glad we did. Our children adopted the wooden pans and spoons immediately, and within minutes they were cooking blue pizza, apple sauce soup, and mango sorbet.

While the related accessories would be nice, as long as your children use appropriate objects, such as wooden or plastic utensils and pans, their creations will be just as scrumptious. (Aside from the safety factor, metal objects in the hands of an energetic child will scratch the paint over time.)

Overall Impressions
Our basic criticisms for this kitchen set are that it's pricey, it takes a long time to assemble, and it's heavy. But this kitchen set is the real deal. It doesn't include a single piece of press board that will warp or cheap plastic detailing that will break easily. Don't consider this a mere toy; think of it as a fun piece of furniture that will provide your child with years of imaginative play. In this day and age of disposable products, we can't offer a great compliment to any toy than to predict that it will likely outlast your children's make-believe years.

Melissa and Doug presents every little chefs dream kitchen. The Deluxe Kitchen features room to prepare, cook, clean and create. This sturdy, durable wooden kitchen includes a stove, refrigerator/freezer, oven, microwave with turntable, and sink. Bright, colorful graphics, and an exceptional price make this the most attractive kitchen! Easy to assemble, here is the one perfect place to play with your food!

Great Product for the Price! - Sara -
I bought this kitchen for my girls for Christmas, age 1 and 4 years. It was intended more for the four year old because she loves to cook and has most of the Melissa and Doug food sets already (which she loves!) but I was suprised at how much my one year old loved it also. We have had it for four months and am pleased at how it has been able to hold up against my daughters, and 3 year old nephew, opening and slamming the doors.
I read a lot of reviews about how difficult it is to put together, but if you know anything about following directions and using a screw driver it really isn't that bad. It took my husband about 2 hours total and there was no yelling involved :)

I was a little disappointed when we realized the kit was missing a piece, since we had counted all of the pieces when it first arrived. But upon further glance we had an extra of one we didn't need and were missing another. A little panic set in since Christmas was in four days. We called the Melissa and Doug company first thing Monday morning and the new piece arrived Wednesday with no arguing or hassel. Just in time to be ready for Christmas morning. It was a bummer that all the pieces were not in the kit, but the customer service was EXCELLENT and things worked out great. It is impossible to expect that there will be no mistakes in life, but it is how people fix those situations that really makes a difference!!

I have been very happy with the MANY Melissa and Doug products that my girls own and the kitchen is proving to be no different! They love it and it will most likely be an item that we keep around for the grandkids too!!

Great Product, but NOT solid wood as stated - mom2karrottopz - somewhere, LA
I purchased this kitchen from a local toy store for my daughter's second birthday. She absolutely LOVES it! The design and bold colors make it attractive. The refrigerator and oven are deep enough to put plenty of accessories in, unlike some other toy kitchens I looked at. I love the safety features--rounded corners and plastic door latches that keep the refrigerator and oven doors from closing tightly and pinching little fingers. I have no complaints about this kitchen, but I would like to point out that the product description on amazon says that it is solid wood and "doesn't include a single piece of press board" but this is not true. The one I purchased was from a display in a toy store, therefore already assembled. When I got home I noticed a small hole in the top of it that apparently happened in the store. When looking in the hole, you can tell that it IS made of press board, but very thick and heavy-weight, so still very sturdy and durable.

This is an excellent product, but not every girl will like to pretend play with a kitchen. My daughter has had it since the Christmas after she turned two and rarely plays with it. She will be 4 in a few months. This Spring, we moved the kitchen out to the garage, because we sometimes have playdates outside with other kids. Well, the other kids like it alright. Since they play, she plays, too. The hit is the Melissa and Doug cutting food box, not really the kitchen for any of them. Also, they like to pretend to drink the drinks and use the plates, which also are more of a hit than the kitchen itself. Plan Toys Food and Beverage Set is very good for its wooden condiments and drink bottles. (There is one boy who likes to make sandwiches and bake in the oven.) Overall, her Schylling tea set is her favorite toy, followed closely by Dora's House. Regardless, it is an excellent product - well designed, very pretty, and I believe it was easy to put together.

Large in Size, Plenty of Gadgets
The Large Kitchen measures 42 x 16 x 42-inches (HxDxW) and weighs 83 pounds -- making it large enough for kids to "cook" without hunching over. KidKraft Cook Together Kitchen

KidKraft Cook Together Kitchen Review

We bought this kitchen for our son because it was such a fabulous deal on Amazon and we felt like we got the biggest bang for our buck. Here are my pro/con lists:
Pros:
~~Nice finish, bright colors, overall an attractive design
~~Lots of things to do to keep little ones busy
~~Perfect size for a three year old (might be a little small for an older child)
~~Sturdy, metal hinges, nice closures
~~Mostly wood, very little plastic
~~I like the fact that the stove, for example, is raised like a real stove and not just painted on, and the fridge even has pretend in-door-water
~~The idea of throwing a washing machine into the kitchen is cute and adds an extra activity (although my son prefers to store food in it)
~~All the knobs work and make little clicking noises

Cons:
~~Assembly is a bit insane. You get this box that is not too large, but you have to take everything out and assemble piece by piece. It took my husband and I 2.5 hours and we're pretty crafty about assembling furniture. A lot of the little screws are in hard-to-reach places. Thankfully all the pieces are numbered and all the screws are labeled so it's pretty straightforward. Also be warned it is a two-person job - not because it is heavy, but because a lot of parts need one person to hold something steady while the other person tries to attach it.
~~Packaging: the little chalkboard was broken when I took it out of the box, one screw (the one that holds the peg on the fridge door) was missing and a couple of the wooden pieces have chips in them. I am hoping that I can get this rectified without a lot of hassle.
~~It would be nice if the dishwasher and oven had a shelf in them. It makes them a little less realistic that stuff just kind of gets dumped into a hole with a door on it.

If I had to do it over again would I buy the same kitchen? Yes, I would.

The Best Ever Play Kitchen - Grandma Judy - Suburban St. Louis
This little wooden complete kitchen is my 2 year old grandson's absolute favorite toy (besides his guitar!). He will play longer with this kitchen than any of his toys. The color/design is gender neutral. It is a really quality product and a good value compared to plastic kitchens. It was not at all difficult to assemble. The instructions are very clear with parts exceptionally well identified. Although not difficult, it does take awhile to assemble because there are so many parts. It worked well for us for one person doing the actual assembling and another person seeking out and preparing parts for the next step.
