Step 2 LifeStyle Deluxe Kitchen

Step 2 LifeStyle Deluxe Kitchen Review

See more picture

I was so excited to unpack and assemble this kitchen when it arrived, and let my 17 month old see it standing up, that I slipped the refrigerator and microwave sections on top of the oven/dishwasher section right away. It slipped right in. Turns out it doesn't unlock nearly so easily, and it is pretty important to put the granite counter top on first. You cannot put it on once these sections have locked into place. We eventually figured out how to separate these sections using 2 flat head screw drivers. There is a round peg approximately 1 cm that must be lifted out of the hole before you can slide the top sections off. Slipping a LARGE flat-head screwdriver adjacent to either side of the peg, and leveraging it up easily lifts the peg out of the hole. This was not intuitive, however, and I suggest not repeating my mistake!

Outstanding Purchase! - C. Smith - Rangely, CO, US
I highly recommend this kitchen. We purchased it for our three-year-old daughter for Christmas and she has played with it almost every day!! We put it together during one nap time and had it hid before our daughter woke up. It is very realistic and love all the lights and sounds (even though it does take eight batteries). It's large enough for her to play together with a friend and I think she will play with it for quite a few years. I thought the price was fair and was impressed with the quick shipping. Overall, I would highly recommend this product!

not best quality, but serves its purpose - Priscilla A. Hewlett - sunny arizona
the faucet doesn't move at all and my son was a little frustrated because he couldn't pretend to turn it on, but other than that it has been fun. some of the drawers don't open and the hooks where you hang the spatula doesn't hold it well, it always falls. the door on the fridge gets stuck, but for the price it is just fine. kids will like a kitchen no matter if it's fancy or not.

Storage Challenged - Ellen J. Bottita -
I bought this kitchen for my 2 yr. old granddaughter at the request of my daughter.
My granddaughter does enjoy playing with her kitchen, but I don't care for it because
the storage areas are very tiny and hold very few of her play foods.

Melissa & Doug Playtime Veggies

Melissa & Doug Playtime Veggies Review

If you are in the market for fake vegetables, look no further. They are more like the fake fruit they sell at craft/decorating stores than the usual plastic food found in the toy aisle, but of course these are made for children to play with. They are pretty impressive, and if you think your child would have a lot of fun with some fake food - these are the best.

The only problem I have had with them, is that the cucumber marked up the red pepper. I'm still probably going to get the fruit set to go along with the vegetables.

Melissa & Doug Playtime Veggies Feature

  • Tempting your children to try some delicious vegetables
  • There are 8 pieces packed in this crate of "farm fresh" favorite fruits
  • This durable, molded-plastic food is ideal for kitchen and grocery play
  • Enrich your child's imagination
  • Exceptional Quality and Value
  • It will be much easier once they have played with these realistically sized "fresh from the farm" veggies
Tempting your children to try some delicious vegetables will be much easier once they have played with these realistically sized fresh from the farm veggies! Definitely worth the money if you want something that will last - B. F. Mason - Seattle, WA
I have a very active little boy and he loves playing with these and have yet to destroy them. The only down side I can think of is they are a bit solid when he decides to throw them (possible dangerous projectile) and for some reason the dogs seem to love chewing up wood toys more than any other. But I am definitely sold on M&D toys for quality alone.

This is a very durable product and for the money came with many pieces of fun teaching them many hours of cooking fun! The only problem I had was I wished it was more colorful. Grey and white are not that much fun to a child. They need more color to teach them colors and make it more fun. Other than that I would recommend this product for durability and great for the money. All safe pieces.

Step 2 LifeStyle Dining Room Pots & Pans Feature

  • Coffee pot, sauce pan, skillet, and pitchers all have lids
  • Two place settings with plate, bowl, tumbler, knife, and spork
  • Spatula and spoon for cooking

Party Time Kitchen

Party Time Kitchen Review

See more picture

What I like most about this play kitchen is it's warm natural color, durable plastic form, and cozy compact size. It's a great alternative to wooden kitchens which can be rather pricey. It is true what some reviewers said about minimal storage space, but the kitchen is small... so it's to be expected. Still, given it's size, it is possible for three children can comfortably play with it (mine do, but this kitchen is only one part of our home living play area). I like that it doesn't dominate our children's playroom. The neutral color palate is tops. It's not primary colors like most plastic children's items. This makes it possible to use in any room without clashing with your existing decor (I could see it in a child's room or even the home's kitchen). Another decor benefit is that it's not pastel, which is a plus for those big on gender neutral colors. Overall it's a cute compact kitchen.
Note: There are several battery operated parts (microwave, burner, phone, light) so be prepared to have plenty of AA and AAA batteries when assembling.

Party Time Kitchen Feature

  • Bi-level three-side play!
  • Accurately detailed kitchen has numerous activities and accessories to encourage multi-child play
  • Kitchen has five realistic electronic features: microwave, stovetop, phone, overhead light and clock
  • "Stainless steel" oven, microwave and refrigerator enhance role play and provide valuable storage of playtime accessories
  • Special frying pan and boiling pot with lid activate realistic frying and boiling sounds in stove's front burner
Kids can cook up lots of pretend play fun with this realistic kitchen playset. Bi-level, three-sided playset combines the preparation, presentation and dining experience all in one. Includes a 33-piece accessory set consisting of a frying pan, boiling pot with lid, four stainless steel cooking utensils, strainer, two plates, bowls, cups, knives, spoons and forks, plus a peppermill, salt and pepper shakers, five spice jars, pot holder, two wicker baskets and an electronic phone. The kitchen features five realistic electronic features: microwave, stovetop, phone, light and clock. Storage drawers and cabinets with authentic handle hardware keep things organized and add to the upscale look. It comes complete with a ceramic-look tile wall panel, granite-look countertops and stainless-look appliances. Sink includes a swivel faucet with push button. Minimal adult assembly required. Winner for Best Birthday Gift - Fussymonkey - Baltimore, MD
My husband and I debated for a long time which Kitchen set to get our daughter. We didn't want her to get something that was nicer then our real kitchen. My husband put it together the night before her birthday. It took an hour. I helped with the stickers. The next morning when our two-year-old saw it, her eyes got large, and she said, "Oooooooo stuuufff."

The kitchen has lots of accessories, she loves to play with. All the drawers open and it has plenty of realistic sound effects.

I was worried it was going to take up too much space, but it fits nicely in the corner of our kitchen.

If there was one fault of this entire toy is that the bowls do not fit in the slot in the cabinet. Besides that very minor issue, this toy is perfect.

Little Tikes Play Smarter Cook 'N Learn Kitchen

Little Tikes Play Smarter Cook 'N Learn Kitchen Review

I got this kitchen for my son for christmas. I had a little problem putting a few things together, there was one screw that was supposed to be put in, but the pieces didn't line up, so I skipped using it, since it didn't seem to be a vital spot to be screwed. I just got batteries for it and tried it out and it's really pretty cool. My son hasn't yet played with it while it talks, but I think he'll find it interesting. Like others, the doors for the refrigerator and oven were difficult to get on and they don't really even close right/all the way. Lastly, the stickers for the "cabinets" don't adhere really well, so I am going to have to dab some glue on them to keep them in place. I got this in a local bargain store for about 0 less than listed here, and I surely can't see paying that much for it, although very cute and all, just not worth big bucks.

What We Think

Fun Factor:

Durability:

(what this means)

The Good: Interactive kitchen talks, recognizes foods, teaches, and responds

The Bad: A little time and muscle needed for initial setup

In a Nutshell: Plenty of accessories and games for hours of independent and interactive play

At a Glance

Ages: 3 and older
Requires: 3 AA batteries (not included)
But this is no ordinary kitchen! When it's turned on, any time your child puts one of the food items on the built-in cutting board or in a frying pan on the burner, the kitchen recognizes the food and names it out loud. Plus, the kitchen has an interactive recipe game mode that helps kids learn how to follow directions as well as to recognize foods, food groups, colors, numbers, shapes, sizes, and textures--all in an encouraging and fun way. This kitchen comes with a place setting and three recipe food sets: Breakfast, Cutting Fruit Salad, and Veggie Stir Fry.

Plenty to Do in the Talking Kitchen: Play and Learn, Cook and Sing
The kitchen is made out of durable, easily wiped-down plastic and an internal electronics and speaker system for the kitchen's food recognition and voice abilities. The oven and the fridge both have doors that swing open and closed, and a handy little towel rack hangs over the space where the included wastebasket nestles. The recipe cards slide neatly into a holder on the back wall, providing a handy reference when gathering ingredients at the start of each game. Each recipe food set has two levels, offering you two games per recipe card.

The kitchen's upbeat, female voice speaks in rhymed couplets and often breaks into enthusiastic snippets of song. If a child makes a mistake, the voice remains friendly and encouraging--and each successfully completed step is met with abundant praise. At the end of a game, the kitchen busts out into a fun song about the lessons learned. The entire kitchen set is backed by a 1-year limited warranty, and other Little Tikes deluxe appliances and recipe packs (sold separately) can be used with the kitchen as well.

What's Cooking? A Kitchen Test Run
The initial setup for the Cook'n Learn Kitchen takes a little time and adult muscle, although no drilling is necessary. You just need a Phillips head screwdriver, the provided screws, and three AA batteries (not included).

Once all the parts are in place and accessories unpacked, the kitchen instantly invites play and interaction. The fruits and butter stick have an innovative Velcro design, giving you the repeatable satisfaction of slicing the fruits in half or cutting off a slab of butter. When you throw something into the pan, the kitchen makes a sizzling sound. Another highlight--the plastic egg cracks in half to release the adorable cloth egg yolk inside.

The verbal directions follow step-by-step recipe logic, and usually end excitingly in a culminating dish such as a pancake, omelet, or stir fry. The spoken responses have a fair amount of variety to keep things fresh, and the songs will have your child singing along in no time. But even when the voice is turned off, the kitchen offers plenty for an active little cook to enjoy.

American Plastic Toy My Very Own Kitchen

American Plastic Toy My Very Own Kitchen Review

We got this as a present (different color) and my kids love it. My kids are 3 and 2, and they are both taller than the kitchen. This doesn't bother them in the least. I got them some toy food, and the kitchen gets used daily.

Pros and cons:

Pros-

1. The toy is small- it fits perfectly in my small toy room. Many people complain about the size, but this kitchen is a great choice if you have limited space. Children are usually ok with playing with smaller toys. It's the parents who feel the need to buy big. I hate having my house cluttered with toys, and I like that my kids have enough space to move around the kitchen.

2. It includes utensils and dishes. I bought my kids toy food, but half the time they cook smaller unrelated toys anyway. I have been served fried train many times since we got this toy. Everything other than the food is included.

3. All the utensils and dishes have their own storage space. There is a cute little dishrack, hooks for the frying pans and serving utensils, and a useful cabinet.

Cons-

1. It takes a while to assemble. I enjoy putting things together, but I can see hiring a handyman to deal with it.

2. It's made of thinner plastic than the more expensive models are. But you get what you pay for.

3. It's very light, and the kids tip it over on top of themselves occasionally. It's not dangerous or anything, but the kids get upset.

American Plastic Toy My Very Own Kitchen Feature

  • Pots, Pans, cooking utensils, Microwave
  • Conventional oven
  • Cell phone and grill area
My Very Own Kitchen offers plenty of great play features in a compact size! This 19-piece kitchen set includes a microwave, range, grill area, conventional oven, dish organizer and plenty of shelf space. Accessories include cups, dishes, silverware, pots, pans, cooking utensils, a pitcher, a cell phone and a colorful label sheet. Measures 19.25"L x 8.25"W x 28.75"H assembled.

Not durable enough for a rambunctious 2 year old - K. Bateman - Southbury, Ct. USA
Just a few months after receiving this for a Christmas present, our very energetic 2 year old girl broke one of the doors and the sink. In the first week alone we had to remove the shelves and some of the door hardware for fear she would hurt herself on them. My husband has begged me to get rid of it, and I finally agree it's got to go, especially now that she could potentially hurt her head or neck where the sink used to be. I feel bad because her grandparents spent a bundle on it, and apparently it was a nightmare to put together.
For an older or calmer child I can imagine this is a fun toy, but for us it's just not appropriate. If you must purchase this product, I'd suggest you wait until all of your children are 3 or older.

Little Tikes Inside/Outside Cook N Grill Kitchen

Little Tikes Inside/Outside Cook N Grill Kitchen Review

This is a pretty good set. Hubby had a hard time putting it together, probably 4 hours of work. The holes are in incorrect places, so he had to make new holes for the screws and file other parts to get the screws to go in properly. Try to put the stickers on as you get it together. Especially before the knobs go on. Hubby had to cut the stickers and piece them back together around the knobs. Grill sound effects scared our 3 yr old daughter. She really doesn't like that part. But, she loves all of the doors to open, pouring coffee and the sounds on the main kitchen side. The little table and bench on the grill side is cute too. We would buy this again, but put it together differently. Read the instructions first completely!!! Then go back step by step and put it together to make sure everything makes sense. Little Tikes really needs to rethink/rewrite their instructions. Otherwise, she likes it for the 2 days she's had it!

Grandma's purchase - S. Curtis - Colorado
Took a little while on Christmas Eve to put together and the fridge door connector came broken. Our guys were able to make it work - probably stronger than it would have been. Our 2 year old grandson loves it. Figured out how to turn the grill on right away and pours coffee for his Grandpa. And yes, boys should have kitchens too. Thank you for the grill aspect and no pink! We think he will enjoy this for several years.

coffee pot problems - Heather Arndt - CA
My 2-year old loves the barbeque area, but hardly touches the kitchen area except to get food to put on the barbeque. Our coffee pot was all dried up when it was delivered (doesn't fill up or pour, just has some permanent streaks on the sides). We contacted them and they said they would send us a new one for free. What came was a huge box that had an entire prepackaged set of stuff that included a whole new barbecue, and the new coffee pot has the same problem as the old one! I don't know if I'll bother contacting them again since I really don't want three barbecue sets and there obviously seems to be a problem with their coffee pots.

LifeStyle Grand Walk-In Kitchen

LifeStyle Grand Walk-In Kitchen Review

We bought this kitchen directly from Step 2 because at the time they were selling it for much less than the vendor on Amazon and they offered free shipping. It was easy to put together; about an hour with two people. There are some flaws as others have talked about such as the microwave door being a little askew and ours also had a problem with the noise making cook top not fitting very well. Also there are some hooks that hold metal utensils that aren't well designed. BUT despite those few flaws that my daughter will probably never notice anyway, we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this kitchen. Our daughter is 18mo and while she doesn't really know how to use it quite yet, she LOVES pushing the buttons on the microwave, the phone and the stovetop. She loves putting things in the cabinets and draws, etc. We decided not to give her all the food items (and there are LOTS included which is GREAT) just because we didn't want her chewing on them. I think this will provide YEARS of fun play. Once put together in person it does seem smaller than the picture, but still oh so worth it!! Highly recommend! Can't say enough about how cute this is. I would have given almost anything to have this kitchen when I was little!!

The kid's love it, storage is poor. - A. Dodson - Virginia
Well, I just had to have this kitchen. And overall, it is fun and Step2 definitely makes good products. I've had this for over a year. My complaint is lack of storage. The storage areas (for foods and "pots/pans/cups") are extremely small. All of the cabinets (including the oven/microwave) combined wouldn't hold the amount of items that 1 small cabinet in one those wooden kitchen sets would hold. So overall it's nice and sturdy (both of my kids have climbed all over it - without permission mind you) and it's held up well. But if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't b/c it's so big without the storage (and we don't have a playroom).

The Little Tikes Sizzle and Serve kitchen is wonderful! It took about one hour to put the kitchen together but it was worth it. I would suggest either drilling the holes for the screws or punching them out with a sharp point before trying to screw anything together. Everything went together perfectly. I purchased this for my one year old daughter. She already loves to stand up to the sink and loves playing with the food and accessories that came with the kitchen. As always, the order with Amazon was easy and it arrived at my door in less then a week!

Little Tikes Sizzle N Serve Kitchen Feature

  • Grill is designed like a contemporary stainless unit and is mounted on the front of the kitchen for easier access
  • Grill has great flickering flames and sound effects
  • Working ice maker drops plastic ice cubes into glass
  • Storage in fabric lined wicker baskets
  • Hanging pot storage like modern kitchens
  • It rotates 90 degrees for 2 kitchen layouts - straight or L shaped
Kids can recreate their favorite cooking shows at home with this modern kitchen. The contemporary setup allows kids to serve food (both real and imagined) to friends and family at the table on the other side. The grill features faux flickering fames and realistic sound effects, and a working ice-maker drops plastic ice cubes into cups. Little Tikes. Ages: 3+
